A baby is all I've ever wanted.
After almost dying on the operating table,
I despise everything about motherhood,
especially the little girl I brought into this world.
It makes me sound awful; hell; I am awful.
How can I make myself fall in love with a baby
I feel no attachment to?

Tyler

I don’t recognize my wife anymore.
When I thought I might lose Emma during our baby’s delivery;
she survived only to reject the baby I love so much.
When I hold this baby, I fully understand unconditional love.
How do I make the woman I love want this little girl I would
move heaven and earth for.

Emma:

I open the
door to the guest quarters where we are staying this weekend, and I don’t see
him, but his luggage is in the middle of the little apartment. I hear the
faucet in the bathroom turn on, then off. The door opens, and out walks my
Tyler. He seems to have gained a touch of weight, but it looks good on him, and
his hair is very short. His eyes meet mine, and he stops in front of his
luggage. He comes to me, but it only takes me a second until I kick the door
shut and take off my shirt and he has my bra unlatched.

I don’t say
a word to him, and only crash my mouth to his, while I unbuckle the belt on his
jeans. Within record time, his pants are off, and his large hands are around
me, cupping my ass. He has always been an ass man, but when he trails his
fingertips down my back, massaging my butt slow and deep, my core is instantly
wet. I need to feel him inside me, and we still have not talked. I pull back
and say, “Hi, you.” With a big smile, I move his one hand to the front of me,
giving him access to my pussy. As much as he loves my ass, he loves my pussy
too. He falls to his knees, looking up at me.

“Hi, to you
too,” he says as his mouth finds its way to my core. I’m so wet that all he has
to do is touch my inner folds with his tongue and I could cream on him. My
hands find their way to his dark hair, and I’m rubbing his head, moaning.
“Fuck, Ems. You are so wet.”

“What can I
say, I fucking missed you. I won’t last long, Ty. Make me come and do it now.”
He always loved my bossiness, and it doesn’t seem to have changed. His tongue
works its way, circling my clit, and I’m glad he has not forgotten what makes
me hot and bothered. It takes less than thirty seconds, and I hold onto him for
dear life as my entire body spasms. “Fuck, Ty. I missed your tongue.”

Standing
up, he crashes his lips to mine, and when his tongue collides with me, I can
taste myself on him. “I fucking taste great,” I say.

“Yes, you
do.” He agrees with me, taking my hand as we find our way to the bedroom.
Pulling the blankets back, he places me on the bed, sliding in next to me. “As
much as I need to be in you, Ems, I need to take you in.” Settling under the
blankets, he pulls them back again as he searches my body up and down. “I want
to sit here, holding you for now.”

“Okay, I
can agree with that.” With a mischievous look on my face, I continue, “Your dick
had better be inside me in the next ten minutes.”

He wears a
cheesy smile while I ask, “What?”

“I missed
your bossy little mouth more than I can tell you.” He’s pulling my hair back,
looking at me intently as if his gaze would burn a hole in my soul. “Shit, Ems,
I knew I missed you, but it all hit me right now how incomplete my life is
without you.” Placing his hand on my cheek, he strokes my face gently. “Babe,
you look good. I mean, I see a little of my old Ems in you right now, and it
gives me hope.”

Rising on
my elbow and placing my hand on his chest, I feel a tear run down my cheek.
“Fuck, Ty, I’m so sorry. I mean, why are you still with me after all the shit I
pulled? I put you through so much and here you are.”

“Ems, I
would walk over broken glass for you. Don’t you know that by now?” he asks,
kissing my forehead. Tyler pulls me close. “Ems, our problems will still find
us tomorrow, but for now, all I want is to make love to my wife.” He is right,
and for that very reason, we fall onto the bed, in a tangled heap, as he
ravages my entire body.

Running From Disaster by Aubrey Parr

Running From Disaster (Sunrise Runners Duology Book 1)
Aubrey Parr

Romantic Suspense

Bite Me Graphics

"Running from Disaster is book one in Aubrey Parr’s Sunrise Runners duology.”

There’s a predator on the loose and he’s abducting runners. Becoming more sinister with each of his victims, Gabriella Winters’ running group was not going to let fear stop them. They needed to run every morning at sunrise. Running was vital to their lives.

Just when Gabriella needed a distraction from the horrors surrounding her, Dylan Hart arrived. He’s a walking disaster for relationships, his track record with women has proven it. Still, Gabriella couldn’t stay away. Everything about him pulled her in. Dylan wanted nothing more than to have her in his life, but he wasn’t sure how to be the man she deserved.

How can they navigate their relationship when Dylan doesn’t play by the rules? Can they survive what the world throws at them?

It was already starting to get sticky, which was never a good sign for the day to come. Sticky in the dark meant miserable when the sun was beating down.
“Ugh, this weather blows. Maybe reliving my night will help keep my mind off this humidity!” Gabriella exclaimed before she went into a full fledge play-by-play of the night before. She seriously began to wonder if she had found the fountain of youth. She was definitely acting like a teenaged girl.
After she finished off the story with the effects of Dylan’s kiss and her ridiculous attempt at getting ready for bed while stuck in a cloud-nine haze, she realized they were half way through their run.
“See? Disaster averted,” Fiona announced.
“No. That’s the problem. The chance of disaster is even greater now!” Gaby said with almost a whine.
“I’m confused,” Violet answered back. “It sounds like you had an amazing time.”
“Exactly! And now I very well may end up as one of those stupid girls that he breaks up with in my coffee shop.” Getting far too worked up, Gaby stopped running and bent over as far as she could to help with her breathing.
“Calm down,” both friends said in unison as Violet rubbed her back with enough effort to help calm her nerves.
“Lord help me.” The words fought to get out. “What if he breaks up with me in my own coffee shop? How humiliating.” Gaby was getting ahead of herself, but she couldn’t help it. Last night went far too well. Now she was hooked and wanted more of Dylan Hart.
Violet replied first. “Babe, that’s not going to happen. Plus, you’re a strong woman. You can have a good time with this guy and not allow yourself to fall in love until you’re ready. Remember, you’re in charge of your own heart.”
“When has the heart ever let someone make their own decisions?” Gaby replied with a little more annoyance in her voice than she planned.

Aubrey Parr writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense, but is digger deeper into her darker side. She lives outside of Chicago with her husband, daughter and houseful of pets. Though inspired by her great-uncle, author Evan S. Connell, Aubrey didn't publish her first novel until after turning forty. Now there's no turning back. She drinks coffee until it's acceptable to have wine and loves to travel. She's always planning her next trip. When Aubrey isn't writing, she can be found with a book in her hand.

Under the Stars
All around us was darkness and night…
I’m not a hero. I’m a survivor.
I had one way out, and I took it.
Now all I want is peace,
A place to pick up the pieces and start over.
But she wants justice.
Names on a list, faces in the crowd.
I vowed to help her, but it’s taking us back to the demons.
Until he appeared.
I thought he died in the fight.
I was wrong.
He’s here.
Stronger, more powerful… Sexier.
And dangerous.
The boy I loved is now the one man we have to fear most.
When he tried to save me, he had no power.
Now everything has changed, and he’ll never stop until I’m his.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've had the chance to follow Tia Louise for quite some time - her genres vary from book to book and when she came out with her Bright Lights Duet, it was something completely different from all her previous published works. It was edgy. Captivating. And it had that suspense aspect that i hadn't noticed in her previous books. I started with Under The Lights, couldn't comprehend how these two characters, Mark and Lara, could go through so much and it end the way it did. What i didn't do, however, was read Sundown, which is found in the The Vault Vol One Anthology found here on Amazon and only on Hardcover:

Now, i may own the Anthology on my kindle, but i haven't had a chance to get to it, and i wish i did before getting into this one. 5 years have passed since the first instalment of the book and Under The Stars - while i doubt it would have impacted that greatly my experience with this book, i have a feeling that it would have made things a bit more understandable. I would have gotten a much better idea of what happened to Mark, Lara and Molly - and i'm thinking some of it is explained in Sundown (can we say that i'll be getting my butt in gear to reading the whole series once again? Absolutely!!)

All that aside, wow. I can't wait to find out what else Tia Louise is going to come up with because every time she starts writing, you simply can't guess where she's going with it until that pivotal moment and your brain goes 'what. The. Hell?!?'. As a reader, i live for those moments. They are those moments that make these books and stories so much more memorable!

Excerpt:

~ Lara ~

We stop walking and turn to face the emerald waters. The briny air pushes her hair back and around her shoulders. Tendrils spin around my face, and the inescapable sorrow filters through my chest.

“I can’t do this anymore.”

“Yes, you can.” Her voice is flat, and she bends to put Pierre on the dry sand. “I’m going up. How much longer will you be out here? Celeste is making Quiche Lorraine for breakfast.”

Another sigh. “I’ll be up in a bit. I’m finishing my exercise.”

“Don’t stay out too long or I’ll eat all the food! Come, Pierre!”

I watch her run up the tall staircase, her little dog at her heels, thinking of the reasons she has to run. I remember her as a small girl on the street, in the dark alley behind the theater. She was thin and starving and hunched in the corner waiting to die.

She was so malnourished, I thought she was younger than her actual age, which was twelve. I remember carrying her inside and fighting with Rosa. I remember Rosa boxing my ears and telling me the first time that kid cried, she’d throw us both in the alley with the rats. I remember the terror I felt that night and Molly falling asleep so quietly with her head on my chest.

She needed me. She loved me, and I loved her fiercely in return.

I remember her running around the theater, a sweet and innocent kid never suspecting the hawk was circling above, watching her, closing in to steal her soul and warp her future. I’ll never forgive myself for what happened to her. I’ll never forgive myself for not being there to protect her.

A flash of pain moves through my stomach, and I remember someone saying the same words to me not so long ago…

Walking to the edge of the water, I look out at the surf, at the waves rushing in and out. I think about how nothing bad can happen here. The sins of the past are far, far away from this beautiful place.

Only it’s a lie.

The sins of the past are never far away.

We carry them with us in our hearts wherever we go.

No matter how far we run, we can never outrun ourselves.

Tears are in my eyes, and I blink them away. My emotions are so close to the surface these days. I squat and wrap my arms around my knees, holding my insides together and wishing…

My wishes never come true.

“Lara!” A strong male voice cuts through the breeze.

For a moment I don’t believe it. It’s a wish caught on the wind and carried away out to sea.

“Lara!” It’s louder this time, closer.

Nervous anticipation floods my chest. I stand and look up and over my shoulder. The staircase where Molly descended is empty. The one ahead of it is empty as well.

Was it a dream?

Another shout, and I realize it’s coming from behind me. Turning, I see a tall figure jogging down the steps. He’s alone, and he’s moving fast. I look around, and no one is here. I have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

My heart alternates between beating out of my chest and dying. I’m back on that train, seeing him for the first time out of the blue, completely caught off-guard, alternately panicking and rejoicing… He’s alive!

He’s wearing faded jeans and a plain white t-shirt. His caramel hair is a little longer, but not much. It moves in the breeze as he approaches me.

He’s strong and pure and gorgeous as ever, and the way we touched, our glorious reunion is stronger and hotter in my memory than the sun climbing higher in the sky.

I want to cry. I want to sing. I want to hold him…

But now everything has changed.

Perfect for all my wicked needs.

Perfect to prove just how far I’m willing to go.

But there’s just one problem …

I’m falling for her. Deep. Hard. Fast.

Even though I’m the bad guy. The man who keeps her locked away.

I’ll do anything to make her stay.

One thing’s for sure … She will be mine.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing content that may be offensive to readers.

“Do you even know what you’re doing?” he murmurs into my ear.

I nod.

I can feel him smile. “I’m a monster … remember? I don’t play nice.”

“I’m not asking you to,” I reply.

“Good. Because I am not about to listen,” he says, his voice gruff and demanding as he takes my earlobe into his mouth and sucks. Then bites.

Hard enough for it to hurt, but soft enough for it not to bleed.

“Think you can handle me?” he muses. “That you can taunt me like that and get away with it?”

I shake my head, but he pulls my hair harshly, forcing my head back and exposing my neck.

His lips make a trail down towards the base of my neck, where he plants a hot kiss filled with desire … and something else. A hunger for bad things.

He wraps his free arm around my waist and pulls me close while his tongue dips out to lick my skin.

My legs quake. I feel something between my legs … excitement … something I haven’t felt in a very long time.

“I’m not gentle. I’m not nice,” he whispers, sinking his teeth into my skin.

I hiss, but still don’t reply.

“You’ve pushed me too far now, Syrena,” he groans. “I’m going to take what belongs to me now. Inch by inch, your body will be mine.”
