Blurb
She’s etching her mark on my skin and the pain has never
felt better…
Dahlia got caught up in my dangerous past a long time ago, but she rebuilt her
life. Now, I’m back because she’s the only person I can trust. And I couldn’t
stay away for another day.
Being near me means danger for the both of us because no one leaves the mob
unscathed. She’s inking over my past one day at a time and it's strictly
business for her, but the flames licking at our heels aren’t just from the heat
between us.
But the only thing harder than leaving the mob is leaving her. I’ll show her
that what we have is forever as long as I’m still breathing…
felt better…

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This
was my first book by Maya Hughes and i'm not quite sure what to make of
it. I don't say that in a negative way, but more in 'i'm not sure if i
really love this book or if i'm just confused by it'. Why do i say that?
Because it caught me unaware. When it comes to mob stories, i've read
from one end of the spectre to the next; from the dark man who forces
his woman to submit to him to the man who surprisingly is more emotional
than i can be on my worst day (minus the awkward crying that is
attached to mine).
It's
not your typical mob story nor a second chance story either - for the
mob, you would have thought that being raised in the famiglia
'business', you'd think these brothers would have been desensitised to
all the violence, only they aren't and you find out that they're the
ones that saves their 'victims' more often than not. For a second chance
novel, you'd think that there would be more mutual chemistry between
Ivan and Dahlia - there is, only it's also buried underneath years of
crap, resentment and anger at all they've been through. I think what
surprised me the most is their first chance together hadn't been that
long. Too often you hear first loves being together for years and events
tore them apart, but between Ivan and Dahlia, it last months, even
weeks, which threw me in a loop of shock.
Will
it be my last Maya Hughes novel? I doubt it, but one thing is for sure;
i will have to reread this book in the future just so that i can truly
appreciate the storyline without all of my thoughts and ideas coming and
ruining certain parts for me #jerkbrain

Author Bio
Maya Hughes has always loved romance novels. One look at her Kindle is confirmation. She started writing her first romance novel while pregnant with her third child and she hasn’t looked back. Now, her romance writing addiction has replaced her romance reading addiction.
You can find her writing on her foldable keyboard and phone anytime inspiration strikes. Her sweet and steamy stories range from rockstars to small towns and everything in between. When she’s not writing, she’s playing with her three kids, running errands or vegging on the couch with the love of her life and biggest fan, her husband.
