There are times when i love being surprised, and surprised good. Ashley Jade is one of those authors that i have more than one book of hers - in fact, i have maybe a half dozen of hers **points at image right under this paragraph**, but sadly hadn't had a chance to really sit down and read them. I know, i'm horrible at that. Even then, she's one of those authors that i'll one click simply because the feedback from reviews and others readers are phenomenal. Needless to say that when i had that brief moment in my blogger schedule to sit down and read Complicated Parts Book 1, i took it.
Soooooo... Complicated Parts? Holy Moly Batman. For real - here's what struck out at me about this book:
- there is barely any sex in this book. Sure there is a mention of it, but otherwise, compared to many of the books i read, even the YA and College romance categories, this book has nothing compared to them
- the level of angst in this book is insane. I'm pretty sure i caught my breath more than once and all for different reasons
- my emotions were running high. There are some very incredible sensitive subjects in this book and Ashley Jade tackled them with such grace that they neither felt disrespectful or over the top.
- that ending - GAH!!! I can't believe that she ended it that way! Not. Fair.
- the dynamic that is Kit is something to behold. Here is a woman who knows who she is and what she's worth and still manages to find the joy in the simple things when there are so many haters (and this does include those readers who can't handle her) and yet, the way that Ashley Jade described her - superb.
- Preston. What can i say about this guy? My heart partly breaks for him. And the other part is just shaking my head in wonderment. But he also makes me think so much because there is only so much pain one person can handle in a lifetime and he's gone through it in spades. For years.
- the suspense? Is there any? In a way, yes. But another, no. but the way that the story was developped, there are aspects that make you think of a suspense because more than once, you'll find yourself biting your nails.
I doubt there is any need for me to say that i really liked this book. For my first book that i read by Ashley Jade, i have to say that it was a success and i truly can't wait to get more from her in the future, and especially, i HAVE to know what'll happen to Preston and Kit because there's no denying the fact that these two are incredibly attractive and captivating in more ways than one.
Bravo Ashley Jade, bravo.
