   My brothers widen their stances, share a look of amusement and cock their eyebrows at me. “Hate to break it to you, but Maddie didn’t bid on you. Lauren did.” Luca laughs while Cristian chuckles. “I’m going out with a Madison and she didn’t go to our high school. They obviously think this conversation is over. “Yeah, but we’re all in the same boat.” Cristian’s thumb moves over his phone screen. “Maddie’s awesome and I think you’ll have a good time with her.” “She seemed pretty quiet and way too accommodating,” I say. Luca kicks his stand up, letting the bike rock a little under him. Cristian’s hands freeze on the screen of his phone. “And that’s bad?” he asks. “I want a woman who knows what she wants. Has her own damn opinions. Doesn’t just agree with everything I say.” Cristian peeks over his shoulder, a look of amusement that matches Luca’s. “You want a girl to come up and grab your nuts?” “I want a girl who knows what her favorite food is, has an opinion about where she wants to go for dinner, likes whatever sports team she likes and doesn’t default to my favorites.” I stuff my hands into my pockets, digging out my keys for my truck. “Well then, Maddie might not be the one. Like I said, she’s nice.” Cristian slaps me on the shoulder. “Treat her good though, okay?” He inserts one earbud. “What do you think I’m going to do, leave her in Garfield Park?” He puts his other earbud in. “That’s not even funny man. I have a friend in that district and the shit that goes down there...” He shakes his head. Cristian loses the entire point of my statement—the fact I’m not a jackass. I’m not Luca. “It’s one date,” I say. “And who knows, maybe she’s nice but still has a wild streak.” Christian again glances over to Luca who’s smiling like he’s fucking Mickey Mouse. “Well, good luck on your date,” he says. Cristian jogs away and Luca’s bike starts up. I head to my truck. The conversation is over, but I’m curious now. Where’s my damn yearbook?

Walking through the revolving door, I’m greeted by a security desk before I can access the elevators. Shit. I should message Glen again to say I’m going to be even later than I expected.

I approach the tall man who looks as annoyed as me for being here on a Friday night. “Hello, I need to head to” —I glance at the envelope— “Heiberman and Lipe Law Firm.”

He taps a few keys. “I think they’re closed already.” His face is void of any emotion.

“Can you tell me if there’s a…” my eyes glance to the folder again. “Mr. Bennett?” The last name causes my stomach to gurgle.

“Sky.” I follow her down the hall and up the stairs. “You need...” I swallow down the bile burning my throat.

She turns around when she reaches her childhood bedroom door. The same room that has pictures of Ben on her corkboard from some dance way back when. The room that holds all her memories of a happy childhood filled with fun, laughter and love. Doesn’t she realize, she has so much?

“What?”

“You need a date.”

Did that really just come out of my mouth?

“A date?”

I grab her hand and take her into my room, which is really her brother’s childhood room, and sit her down on the bed.

“Yeah, give me your phone.”

She digs it out of her pocket and places it in my palm.

I search the app store and select a dating app.

“GeekMatch?”

“Yep.”

“What about the more traditional ones?” she asks, leaning over to look at my phone. Her hair tickles my neck, and the scent of her perfume makes my dick twitch in my pants.

“You need a beta, remember?”

“Hmm.”

I go through her selfies and select one that doesn’t show how truly gorgeous she is. It’s hard to find one though because Skylar doesn’t have any bad pictures.

“I’m not sure about this, Beck.”

I fill out her form for her while she remains silent. Once I’m done, I hand it back over to her and she stares at the screen for a long time.

Our thighs are pressed against one another and I’m fairly sure the electricity running through my body is buzzing through hers, but her gaze is still glued to her phone.

“Okay,” she says, still sounding reluctant.

“Perfect. Now, Terminator.”

She smiles and her lips brush my cheek. “Sorry, for being so needy.”

“It’s the hazard of having girl friends, I suppose.”

“Friends?”

“Friend,” I clarify, standing up before my hands and lips listen to the instructions from my dick.

“You’ll help me pick someone out?” she asks.

“Of course.”

She walks out of my room, her gaze glued to her phone. I follow with my gaze glued to her ass.

I turn my attention back to Candice. “So, are we celebrating something?” I ask.

“Great idea.” Candice raises her hand to flag down the waitress.

The red-haired waitress, Natalie, stops at the edge of our table, an array of empty hot chocolate mugs on her tray. “Hey Rogue,” she says and then looks across the booth from me. “Mia.” Her eyes widen and she does a double take at the both of us.

“What can I get you?” she grants Candice her undivided attention.

“I need a bottle of champagne.”

“I don't drink champagne,” I mumble.

Candice's attention moves from me to Mia and then back to Natalie. “Well, I do. Just a glass then.”

“I'll grab that for you now.” Her hand lands on the edge of the table, pausing for a second. “Rogue, do you want anything else?”

Mia scoffs, but when my gaze shoots in her direction, she pretends to concentrate on her Bloody Mary.

“Um…yeah, Nat, can you grab me an Amstel?”

Nat's knuckles knock the wood table. “Sure thing.”

She's a good distance away before Mia's gaze stops following her. She has to know Nat, she's the owner’s daughter and one of Mia's biggest fans.

“Surprise, surprise, another female who caters to Grady.”

Candice ignores Mia’s snide comment. “What's up with the Rogue thing?” she asks, sipping her mix drink.

Mia snickers, twirling her celery around in her drink. “That’s what they call him because he only cares about himself.” She looks across the table, daring me to argue with her.

“How’s that?” Candice asks, a little warily.

I bet she knows for sure now that having both of us as clients is a bad idea.

“My friends started calling me that when I was younger because of the tricks I’d do. I’d try stuff no one else would dare to.” My eyes bore over at Mia, but apparently her drink is still more interesting than me because she can’t meet my gaze. “I set myself apart.”

“More like you isolated yourself. I think your nickname should be changed to Ogre.” She laughs to herself, pulling the piece of celery from her drink, smiling to herself.

“Okay, you two. I know there's history, but we have to remain professional,” Candice says.

“Ogre, huh? I don't think you were staring at me yesterday like I was Shrek.”

Nat comes back, placing a glass of champagne in front of Candice and a beer down in front of me. I lift the bottle to my lips as Nat slides a plate of pickles, celery, olives and a pepperoni stick in front of Mia.

“Thanks, Nat.” She grabs the pepperoni stick and chomps down on it aggressively. “I love biting down on a good piece of meat.”

Nat glances to me and then hurries off to help some other customers. I wish I could go with her.

“There wouldn't be a problem if you kept us in our assigned corners,” I say to Candice.

“Unfortunately, that's not a possibility. Why do you think I'm celebrating?” She lifts her champagne.

Mia's foot falls to the floor and she lets the celery plop back down into her glass then leans forward, fixing her eyes on Candice.

I swivel in my seat, giving Candice all my attention.

“What exactly are you celebrating?” I ask.

Candice's smokey grey eyes move between the two of us and then she plasters on the fakest smile I've ever witnessed, and I've seen many. “You were both chosen to represent the snowboarding team on a press tour. Yay!”

Mia leans back in the booth, downing the rest of her Bloody Mary. “Not going to happen.”
