My rating: 4 of 5 stars
What can i say about this book? About this author? It's the first time that i read a book written by Erika Kelly, and it was the blurb that drew me in. That and the cover. I'm a huge fan of MC genre novels, and can't get enough, and i'm always open to discovering new authors of the genre. So you can imagine my surprise when there was NOTHING about MC 's in this book whatsoever. And that did make me laugh because it goes to show how much of an impact a cover has on a reader.
Needless to say that this book was about extreme sports, and the man, Fin, who abandoned the love of his life to reach his goals - or rather, found himself having to chose between family and Callie 6 years ago. Since their break up, Fin has grown as an athlete, same with his followers, and Callie has found herself trying to remake herself so that she can attempt at mending her broken heart. There were parts that were funny and made me chuckle, and other parts that made me realize just how powerful social media really is.
Imagine one single text was posted online and then created the latest 'fad' - in this case, Fin became the #WorldsWorstBoyfriend. It made me see how something so small can blow up to become something huge. What i enjoyed was how Callie reacted to this phenomenon. She created an exhibition of those who had been wronged by horrible boyfriends and helped them heal from the pain and maybe even helped them move on.
While the pace was a bit slow for my liking, it did help me put myself in these characters' shoes and helped me appreciate the story. I can only hope that i'll get the opportunity to read more from Erika Kelly and this series in the future.
