SYNOPSIS:

Love is blind…
Especially when you’ve been abducted.

Caught in the dredges of life, Elise had come to the grudging conclusion that mediocrity was all she’d ever have.
Until a routine shopping trip turns into a deadly affair.

Taken. Two men, one a brute and the other an enigma. A cabin in the woods. One dangerous agenda.

Blindfolded and held captive, Elise’s mundane existence just got a whole lot more interesting. Thrust into the unknown, held prisoner by a man with rough hands and a gentle voice, she’s faced with her own demise while struggling against a growing desire for the unacceptable—her captor.

Will Elise make out with her life—and heart—intact?

Taken Taken by J.C. Valentine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Title: Taken
Author: J.C. Valentine

I've read quite a few books by J.C. Valentine by now - some full length and others novella length. Taken is a novella that delves in the kidnapper and kidnappee falling in love, and i'm not quite sure what to make of it. Let me expand on hat: many of the novellas i've read by J.C. Valentine were usually part of a series and Taken is a standalone and reads rather quickly. It's the story of a woman, Elise, that has resigned herself to being single for many years to come and with a dull life to match it. Things become exciting and interesting when she's kidnapped by two men - one hellbent on being as nasty as possible and the other calls out to her in ways Elise never expected.

While I enjoy a good kidnapper/victim story, I love them more when the passion simmers before it ignites. Then again, this is also the first time that i meet a heroine who truly comes alive in the captivity of the men. Maybe it's because i didn't know what to expect, or how to connect on a deeper level with Elise, but Taken, while interesting, was more of a surprise that kept me on the fence on what to do with this book. I'm always a fan of J.C. Valentine's books, but Taken wasn't my favorite.
