Five years ago, I did something
impulsive. I turned myself into a cliché when I decided to be spontaneous and
hopped in my car and took off to Vegas. I had no idea that decision would come
back to haunt me. Now, I am a super star, engaged to a rock star, and have
everything I could ever want. Until my world implodes around me and I find
myself running back to where it all began.

Five years ago, the woman of my dreams
walked into my club. And as quickly as she entered, she fled. All I was left
with were memories and a piece of paper. I searched everywhere for the girl who
starred in all of my wildest fantasies, but it wasn't until her life got turned
upside down that she came barreling back into mine with more complications then
I could have dreamed. I fell for her, hard. What she doesn't know is I have a
secret that could very well tear us apart

The bottom dropped
out of my stomach, and I was so thankful security grabbed me and brought me
inside before I could say something dumb. One of the things my mother taught me
was to be the ice queen, and in situations like this with the press, it was the
perfect persona, even though on the inside I was a complete wreck.
“Honey,” Cassie
said as I walked in the door. “I'm so sorry. I have no idea how they found out
you were going to be here.”
I looked at her
skeptically, but didn't comment. She had no reason to lie to me. We never lied
to each other, hence her always telling me about the guys I dated. “It's okay,
they just caught me off guard. They asked something about Jake and Maria that
had me pausing.”
“What did that
fucktard do?”
“Rumor has it he's
still with Maria. I'm sure it's a misunderstanding. They are wrong. Jake loves
me. He wouldn't cheat on me.”
“Right, you keep
telling yourself that, babe.” A saccharin-sweet voice said from behind me.
I cringed.
Cassie’s eyes were huge, and she had a surprised look on her face.
“Hi Maria, how are
you tonight?” I asked politely and put on a fake smile as she pulled me in for
cheek kisses.
“Honey,
Cassandra.” Maria smiled in greeting while Cassie growled and said, “Who let
the trash in?”
Maria laughed
loudly. “Really Cassandra? You think you're cute don't you? Wait until I tweet
about the rude owner of the Manhattan Gallery on Sunset to my ten thousand
followers.”
“It's all right
Cassie, I got you babe.” I patted her on the arm. “My hundred thousand
followers will love to hear about all the amazing artwork and friendly staff.”
“Holy crap! Were
you just mean to someone?” Cassie whipped around to me in shock.
Was I? That wasn’t
actually my intention, I was just trying to defend my friend, but now that
Cassie’s said that, I can see how that could be interpreted. Looking over at
Maria, I apologized, “Oh Maria, I didn't mean to. I'm sorry—that was really
insensitive of me.”
“Are you for
real?” The look on her face was in direct contrast to the artistic beauty of
her Dries Van Noten gown. “I'm basically telling you that I am fucking your
fiancé and you are apologizing?” She shook her head. “This is no longer fun.”
Grabbing a glass
of champagne off the waiter’s tray, she practically devoured the thing in one
gulp before stalking off, probably looking for new prey. Honestly, I had no
idea why she was acting like that—I really was sorry. Trumping her in the part
for the show, and basically taking her ex-lover, I never should have mentioned
the number of followers I had. It was insensitive of me, even if she was lying
about she and Jake getting back together.
“Don't do that,”
Cassie said as she pulled me over to the bar. “You did the right thing. She was
being a heinous bitch and is probably the one who spread the rumors to the
rags.”
The bartender came
over to us, and I opted for the wine instead of the champagne. “I think I need
to get away for a few days.”
“Don't run.” She
nudged me in the shoulder, practically causing me to spill the glass the
bartender just handed me. “Remember what happened last time?”
I shot her a glare
and took a hefty gulp. “Don't… we don't talk about that, remember?”
“My lips are
sealed. Come on let's mingle.” She looped her arm in mine and dragged me around
the room.
There were a ton
of people, mainly artists and a few business men with their trophy wives. I had
to dodge a couple creeps with wedding bands that were trying to flirt with me,
but other than that it was a lot of fun and I am certain Cassie made a boatload
of money off her paintings.
As the night wore
down I was getting tired, so I went in search of Cassie. I noticed people
looking at me funny and wondered what the deal was. It wasn't long before a
message came through on my phone and I found out exactly what was going on.
The video took forever
to load and it was grainy but bright enough that I could make out my bedroom,
bed, and sheets. Maria, with her big fake boobs, was there spread eagle for the
whole world to see. Laying on top of my comforter, completely naked, and
playing with herself. But Maria’s display is not what had me staring at my
phone, it was Jake walking into the room, fully clothed and watching her.
“No!” I heard
someone yell as if from far away. It must have been Cassie because the next
thing I knew my phone was ripped from my hand and she was there with two big
burly security guys. “Come on, babe.” She grabbed my arm and began pulling me.
“We will take you out through the back.”
“What on earth
just happened?” I asked as a million notifications came through on my phone.
“That, my dear,
was me not telling you I told you so.”
I stood there for
a moment, my heels embedded in the carpeted floor. What I saw was real, and
Cassie was again correct. “I gotta go,” I murmured in a daze.
“I'm coming with
you.”
“What?” I looked
down at Cassie, “No, you can't do that. What about your show?”
“That's what
assistants are for. You're my bestie and you just found out that your fiancé is
a lying cheating cuntcake. So, we are going to go away and have some fun and
forget that douche nugget even exists.” I was too absorbed with my new reality
and the thoughts of what the next few weeks were going to be like between the
press and trying to film with my new ex’s current lover, that I didn’t even
process Cassie’s most colorful language about Jake.
“Where are we
going?” I asked but she was busy going through my phone.
“Joanie? It's
Cassie. Yeah. We are leaving town for a couple days. Call the show and tell
them she needs some time off.” She paused. “Yep. We are getting out of here. I
will make sure she's all right. No I'm not telling you where we are going. Why
not? Seriously… because you're her publicist.” Pause. “Um, no, I don't trust
you not to leak our location to the press. Gotta go. Just make sure you talk to
the studio. Bye.”
“What are you
doing?” Clearly, I was still in shock.
“Clearing your
schedule. We are going to Vegas.”
I blanched. “No,
no, no. That’s an insanely bad idea.”
“Look at it this
way,” she whispered in my ear, dragging me out the back door, “you can't get
married this time. Been there. Done that. Remember?”
“That is so not
funny.”
“Yet, it totally
is!” She laughed, opening the driver’s side door of her car. I just shook my
head, then promptly stuck my tongue out at her. Well, it was better than
cursing.
