Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Mexican Mafia, Romance
Javier Estrada is the king of Mexico.
Evil. Twisted. Psychopathic.
A cruel madman with a killer smile.
And he is my boss.
My duty is to blend in, clean his home, and not make a peep.
I’ve done my job well for years.
Imbedded myself so deep in his world, he’s never going to get me out.
But I am this king’s worst nightmare.
Bad men like him took everything away from me.
I will never forget.
He will pay for the sins of many.
I’ll just bide my time—watching, waiting, calculating—until the time is right.
When I strike, he won’t know what hit him.
The monster who rules Mexico with an iron fist may not bow to anyone…
But I’m not just anyone.
He will bow to me.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The first book i read by K Webster was her collaboration with J.D. Hollyfield in her To Lovers series - one that funny as all heck and have me laughing out loud more times than i can count. After this series, i read her War & Peace series. Now this introduced me to how dark her novels can be and i was hooked - then again, i was since the first book i read by her, but this series was different. Since then, i read many of her standalones, and none were remotely the same as the other.
Now El Malo was surprising. From that very first moment that i read the prologue, i knew that i wouldn't be able to put this book down, and that's exactly what happened. From the very beginning, you know that Rosie is different. That her innocence was destroyed from one single moment in her young life and that even through that, she would become a force to reckon with. Only, i highly doubt i knew exactly how much of a force she would become. I now that more than once i underestimated her and that was probably my biggest mistake. Or rather, i wasn't the only one who made that mistake.
Javier surprised me. Oh, for sure this man is evil and has certain tendencies that makes him dangerous, but this man has many surfaces that make him unforgettable. There were so many parts in this book that had me gasping and going back a few paragraphs to make sure that i really read what i had, and yes, i really did understand it correctly the first time.
I really did enjoy this book, but i know that i'll have to go back and find out if i missed any small details that would answer some of my nagging questions. Then again, these questions arose only because i plowed through this book so quickly that i think some of information went way over my head in my haste to find out if something would happen between Rosie and Javier.
