About THE TATTERED GLOVES
Head down. Don’t look up. Never make eye contact. Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.
But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.
And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.
Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

Title: The Tattered Gloves
Author: J.L. Berg
Goodness. I never would have thought that I'd be abelt to get through this novel. This is J.L. Berg's first young adult novel and quite frankly, I never would have thought she's never written in this genre before (let me remind readers that she usually writes contemporary romance). The Tattered Gloves follows a young girl who lost both parents in different ways when she's sent to live with her aunt - her mother's twin sister. Willow hides from the world, trying to deal with her grief in the only way she knows how - by building walls around her in the hopes of being able to keep others away. With her walls, she wears an old pair of gloves, refusing to remove them no matter what but as she settles with her aunt, Willow realizes that aunt Addy isn't willing to let her niece cut herself off. And so, armed with her gloves, her aunt and two new friends, Willow hopes to be able to chip away at the walls that have been solidly built for so long.
The Tattered Gloves is the book that will leave you breathless and an emotional wreck as you follow this one girl who is trying to come to terms with her own loss. It pulled at my heart, putting to paper the grief and pain at the consequences of losing your loved ones. It's beautifully written and done in such a way that makes you appreciate the beauty of life and how love and friendship will rally together to support you when you're at your lowest.
