Hate me or hold me?
I've read the previous book in this series and it had surprised me. I know what type of books that this author is able to write and have had the chance to read at least one of each, and yet this series, the Collateral series, fits in just about any of the categories i've seen her write in. there was just so much of everything and yet, it really worked for the characters that she created.
Starting this book, Hold Me, i wasn't quite sure where or how it would go. There was so many avenues that this book could go and it went in its own way. Nowhere specific and yet in a predicted path that you know is just perfect for these characters. Anna is still so very broken from her past and finding out that she still has family when all her life she believed she was an orphan was shocking to say the least. When i thought this girl would have chosen one way, she absolutely went another, choosing Raphael when he seems like a stranger himself who even considering his present, wants to protect her.
I'm still wondering whether or not there will be more of this couple after this book - it was that good. I know there can be more of these two, to see just how far they'll go for one another and to find out whether or not Anna will embrace the darkness that exists within Rafe and emulate it. While i expecting something darker, things that i'm used to reading from this author, i was also glad to see that LP Lovell still stuck with the emotional pull that we had the chance of experiencing with the first book.
I'm incredibly curious to find out where this author will go from here- whether she'll continue this couples' story or if she'll find another way to pique our curiosity. One thing is for sure, i'll be truly looking forward to the next book that is to come from her.

“Why are you doing this?” She glares at me. “If you are trying to break me – ”
“I don’t need to break you,” I say coolly. She’s already so irrevocably shattered.
She stands and moves in front of me, her shoulders rigid. I stare into her eyes, and through that self-imposed wall of ice she’s built around herself, I see all the pain and despair, the burning hatred and raw defiance. It’s buried, but it’s there, an ember just waiting for oxygen. I lift a brow, waiting to see what she’ll do. “Whatever it is that you want to do, just do it!”
“And what do I want to do?”
“Just fuck me. Beat me. Pick your poison, but get it over with!” Her voice rises to a guttural snarl. She reaches for the straps of her dress, shoving them down her shoulders until the material falls, exposing her breasts. I grab her wrists and pin them together against my chest, repositioning her dress with my free hand and sliding the straps back over her shoulders. She’s shaking, her breathing ragged and her eyes wild. I can feel her pulse thrumming at her wrist, a primordial drumbeat against my fingertips.
She yanks against my hold, a growl working up her throat. A cold smile inches over my lips. “You’d like that wouldn’t you?” She stills. “For me to be exactly what you expect.” I lean into her, bringing my lips to her ear. “I think you want to be a slave, Anna. I think you want to be treated like a fuck doll. You’d rather be a whore than deal with the unknown. At least that way, you know what men want from you, right? You’d know what I want from you.”
She tugs on her wrists again, trying to break away from me, but I won’t let her. “No! I want…”
“What do you want?”
“I want to be free,” she whispers.
I step closer to her, crushing her arms between our bodies as I place a finger beneath her chin. “No, you don’t. You say you want it, but I offer it to you, and you’re scared to take it. You’re so busy being so goddamn angry that you haven’t realized you’re standing in a cage and the door is open.”
She tugs her face away from me. “I’m not angry,” she says.
I laugh, sweeping a tendril of hair behind her ear. “Oh, avecita, you’re the angriest person I’ve ever met.” I see it in her, the rage. And her anger in itself is a volatile thing because just as she has been imprisoned, so has it.

LP
Lovell is the kind of author that has the ability to write just about
any genre of books and makes you really love that book. I've had the
opportunity to read quite a few of her books and love how she brings her
stories and characters to life. Most of the works that i've read by
this author was her collaborations with Stevie J. Cole and from one book
to the next, there's just no real way to be fully prepared for what
they'll deliver.
Hate
Me was a mix of everything - part emotional, part dark and part
mafia/suspense that drew me in like nobody's business. You'd think that
Rafael was the complete heartless man that so many of his profession
often claim to be, but when it comes to Anna, this man is all heart and
thoughts. He surprised me more often than i can count since he's looking
out for this girl that claims to be nothing more than what she's been
trained to be. This girl is quite the mystery - she has a history and a
past that is unknown and yet i'm curious to know. It seems that very few
know who she really is and LP Lovell really knows how to draw out her
book so that from start to finish, you feel the need to keep reading
This
was an interesting and captivating first instalment to this author's
newest series and i look forward to finding out more about this family
and what'll happen to Anna and Rafael in the future.

EXCERPT
“Tell me, sweet Anna, what would you do if you were to have your freedom?”My mind hits a wall, and my mouth snaps shut. “I don’t know.”
“You never thought about it?”
“I survived because I refused to hope. So no, I never thought about it.”
He takes a piece of my hair, twirling it around his finger until the gold strands are wrapped tightly around his tanned skin. “Well, maybe you should start thinking about it.”
“What if I don’t want to?” I breathe. Being free would mean leaving him, leaving my safe harbor to walk into a world of danger and enemies.
I take his face in both hands and stare into his eyes, my lips hovering barely an inch away from his. I find myself dancing with this sense of curiosity, remembering the way his lips felt on mine. Soft and yet hard. Demanding and yet never forceful. That kind of kiss is something I’ve never experienced, and…I liked it. I liked it with him.
“Take it, Anna,” he breathes. I swallow heavily and swipe my tongue over my suddenly dry lips. Rafael lets out a tiny groan, his hand cupping my cheek as he swipes a thumb over the corner of my lip. “Take what you want, avecita.” He somehow manages to make it sound like a threat. I slowly close the gap between us until my lips brush his. He doesn’t move, waiting for me to kiss him. As I press my lips fully to his, I feel a sense of empowerment. To have a man like Rafael willingly submissive to my exploration… My hand slides around his neck and my tongue brushes his bottom lip, making him tense.
Taking my face, he holds me away from him as his warm breaths wash over my lips. I feel the blush creep over my cheeks. “Did I do something wrong?”
He groans again. “No. Fuck, no.” He throws his head back against the chair. “Anna, you have no idea how tempting you are.” I freeze, my pulse leaping in my throat. “No. Don’t do that. I’m not them, avecita. I will never touch you unless you want it.”
“Promise?”
He smiles. “I’d promise you the world if I could, little warrior.”
“And what if I can’t offer you a single thing in return?”
He leans in, placing the softest kiss against my throat. “From you, sweet Anna, I would ask only for a smile.”
