Title: Ride Rough
Author: Laura Kaye
Years ago Maverick and Alexa were together. Then her brother 'stupidly' died - a motorcycle accident that he never recovered from, and Alexa had to ask herself whether or not Maverick's lifestyle was something that she could live with. Then her mother was sick and needed her. Their love, as strong as it was, just couldn't survive what they needed and wanted, making them drift apart. When life went on, Alexa met Grant and they got engaged to marry, only something is brewing in their relationship... dark things that make Alexa seek Maverick out for help on something she can't quite put her finger on. From that moment, Maverick knows that he won't stand back when all the signs point to danger, vowing to protect her no matter what.
Laura Kaye's Ride Rough is the second book in the series, and i had the opportunity to read the first instalment, but this book was... different. In a good way. It felt a little slower, giving you the chance to connect with these two individuals, knowing that they have a history that can't be ignored. They didn't simply fall out of love, weren't betrayed - circumstances, life, grief all played a part in forcing them to seek out what they needed in life - stability, direction and security. It made me understand why some people stay when they're afraid. Why they do the things they do when it seems as though everyone is more than willing to help, no matter what. It's the kind of emotional story that will grip you and make you cheer for Alexa and Maverick, wanting Grant to get what he so rightly deserves. It's the type of book that will make you throw your fist in the air in excitement, screaming 'yes!'. It's a series that i know i'll keep following until the very end just to find out what will happen to the Raven Rider members.
