Resisting My Submission by Jenna Jacob

Synopsis

They say first impressions mean everything. Either Maximus “Max” Gunn didn’t get the memo or he didn’t care. The gorgeous, muscle-bound Dominant’s assumption that I, Mistress Sammie, was a submissive set my blood boiling. I wanted to drive the toe of my coveted Louis Vuitton stilettos between his legs—and bring him to his knees.

But anger wasn’t the only burning emotion Max ignited inside me. The potent sexual attraction we share threatened to burn me alive, too. Unwilling to cede our Dominance, the battle for control raged like a third world war, both in and out of the dungeon. It would take a coup d'état for love to conquer our drive to command.

But when Max learns the secrets of my past, and attempts to heal my scars, I don’t know if I’ll be able to still the battle…or fall willingly to my knees.

Title: Resisting My Submission
Author: Jenna Jacob

I'm not sure what it is about Jenna Jacob's way of writing books that just draws you right in, sucks you into that new world that she created and leaves you connecting with her characters in a way that you never expected. That's exactly what happened to me. I've read books of BDSM clubs and their players, but none of them actually hit me the way that Samantha/Sammie's story did. Her story is one that we don't often see, mostly because we all assume that individuals who live the BDSM lifestyle chose who they become (Dom/sub/switches) based on their personalities and not out of necessity, but Jenna Jacob tells the story of how one woman lost the love of her life and had to change the way she saw the way of her life, unwilling to abandon it but unable to live it the way she used to. Samantha became Mistress Sammie, a Domme that is able to bring her subs to their knees in pleasure without any sexual penetration, but the day that Max shows up at the doors of the Genesis Club, they both question if her hidden nature is able to rise or if she'll remain the self that she needed to be to survive.

This story resonated in me in ways i hadn't expected. We all do things and think differently simply to survive an event or even your very own emotions. It made me sad, and so damn happy to read Samantha and Max's story. They completed each other in ways that i'm not sure that anyone could have expected - i know i didn't. there were parts that made me laugh, others that made me gasp, but in the end, it's the emotional side that surprised me the most, because, since this was my first novel i've read written by Jenna Jacob, i wasn't prepared for it. It gave a new perspective on why we do the things we do - to protect ourselves, to survive, to deal with what happens with us, but at the same time, it shows that there is more than meets the eye. A community that stands by you through thick and thin, friends that become family no matter what, and a partner who is more than willing to wait until the other is ready to be who they truly are. Having started this series late, i was surprised to realize that there wasn't any problems in following the storyline, only now i know that i want to read the entire series, starting from the very beginning and finding out exactly how this family became and what they've gone through from the beginning.
