About RED'S SALVATION

USA Today Bestselling Author Kennedy Layne concludes the Red Starr series with an extraordinary mission that will keep you riveted to the very last page…

It has taken Catori Starr years to come to terms with the death of her husband during a failed hostage rescue mission.   She’d overcome her tragedy better than anyone could expect, but no one could truly understand the crushing black hole left in her grieving heart.  She’d moved on to the best of her abilities, even reopening the doors to their business and operating a hostage rescue team she’d personally recruited. Brendan “Red” O’Neill’s last mission didn’t go as planned.  He’d ended up becoming a political prisoner to a fragmented national government in a country that was supposed to be an ally to the United States of America.  He lost count of the endless days spent wasting away throughout his years in captivity, but never once had he forgotten the vision of his wife’s beautiful face.  She was the only motivation he’d managed to keep for his own sanity as he clung to life. Breathe.  That’s what Starr had to keep telling herself over and over as she discovered the closely held secrets surrounding the facts of that fated mission.  Her husband had been captured alive and she would move heaven and earth to bring him home, even if that meant sacrificing everything they had—including her own life. Series Description: Red Starr HRT is a paramilitary hostage rescue team that was originally formed years ago by two retired Marine Master Sergeants. Upon the death of Catori Starr's husband, Brendan "Red" O'Neill, she took a much needed hiatus to deal with her guilt and all consuming grief. Two years later Starr is clawing her way back and ready to lead a fresh team of five cherry-picked former Force Recon Marines. Red Starr HRT takes cases the FBI and other agencies won't touch, from domestic assignments bordering on the grey edges to missions abroad against savage terrorist regimes. Follow along as Kennedy Layne conveys each of their stories as they work together on high risk rescues that lead them down perilous paths of passion, intrigue and suspense...

Read a Sneak Peek of RED'S SALVATION

Brendan stood in front of her in a manner that Catori was familiar with, but his protective gesture didn’t have a place here. They were both former Marines and fully understood the interval they should be at and the placement of their bodies in reference to the enemy under this type of situation. One didn’t line up for the enemy sniper or highlight his or her presence on a ridgeline. He sure as hell shouldn’t have his back to the enemy or provide a potential sniper with a silhouette. She parted her lips to remind him of that fact, but he reached out an arm and stopped just short of brushing his fingers against her cheek. “I’m afraid to touch you.” The words were barely recognizable due to the strangled tone Brendan had used, as if he were afraid speaking to Catori would cause her to disappear into thin air. The emotional pain she’d been suffering became more severe at what her husband must be experiencing. “I’m afraid to find out that you’re not real or who I think you are.” “I’m real, Brendan,” Catori whispered, wanting nothing more than to take him in her arms. She couldn’t. Not now, even though she’d seen the old scars and healing wounds on his back when he’d been walking in front of her. Her mind couldn’t go to the torture he’d experienced at the hands of the Taliban or the ISI officers who were betraying their own country to further the Taliban’s objectives. “I’m not losing you again, which is why I need us to take cover underneath this ledge and then you can tell me if you know of another way off of this mountain.”

Red's Salvation (Red Starr, Book Seven)Red's Salvation by Kennedy Layne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Title: Red's Salvation
Author: Kennedy Lane

I have this tendency lately of picking up books that are part of a long series and not having read any of the previous ones beforehand. Now, sometimes I'm lucky enough and even if they happen to be the series conclusion, I'm easily able to follow the storyline, and at other times, I'm at a loss and try to keep up as best as I can. Red's Salvation by Kennedy Lane is one of those that I followed easily but I know that I'd benefit from reading the entire series; not because I'm missing things, but because quite frankly, I need to know what happened in the past missions from this married couple and just how Catori survived knowing that so many gave up on Red still being alive after being declared dead from his last mission.

It takes great talent to take a story and bringing it to life. Not just the kind of life where you can see it in your mind's eye, but the kind that has you in an emotional wreck, chills running up and down your back and the nausea rolling in your stomach from all the details. Kennedy Lane doesn't spare any details and she simply takes your breath away and damn if I wasn't screaming at my kindle for Catori not to give up and that she needs to find the answers to all her unanswered questions.
