Bad Penny by Staci Hart

Nothing good comes after the third date.

Date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he’ll get weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked or that he can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Title: Bad Penny
Author: Staci Hart

I can't believe that I had never read a book from Staci Hart until this very moment! Bad Penny was the cherry popper of all cherry poppers and it made me laugh like nobody's business at Penny's antics and her many, many hilarious puns. Her past made her bitter and her outlook on relationships the product of a relationship in high school gone horribly wrong and the only person who made her laugh when she was at her lowest was Diddle, aka Brodie, the man that makes her heart race faster than a racehorse.

Penny has a fascination with the male appendage and how men can use it. God, I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as her innuendos made me question whether or not they are true (and yes, I just might check for myself, lol), but deep down, amidst all her bravado and tough exterior, she's still a woman who got hurt and is still living with the scars of what he did. Brodie is the kind of man that you can only wish for ~ more than capable to handling situations that are thrown his way, able to shoulder more than he should, and most of all, he's able to give Penny exactly what she needs. I liked this story, loved the humour, and enjoy the ride to the very end. I don't think I could have asked better for y first taste of what Staci Hart has to offer her readers.
